Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, Debbie Sue Przybysz (Shibish) holds a bachelor’s degree from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, in adventure recreation — her heart beats to play outside. She found her way to this sweet spot in the southeast when she began guiding on the Ocoee River in 1999 – she also found her sweet husband, Mark on the Ocoee. Since then, she has guided white water professionally in southeast West Virginia and New Zealand, but always comes back to the Ocoee every summer, working for Nantahala Outdoor Center (NOC) as a senior guide and trip leader.
In 2007, Debbie Sue earned her associates degree in nursing and practiced as a registered nurse for 8 years at TC Thompsons Children’s Hospital, working in the ER and outpatient surgery. In 2015, she obtained her General Contractor’s license so she could focus on buying and renovating homes during her off-days from the hospital. She is known for her beautifully, detailed restorations of historic homes as most of her renovation projects have been within the historic neighborhood of St. Elmo, where she currently lives. She is also the President of the Community Association of Historic St. Elmo, which is the sole neighborhood association of the St. Elmo community.
Over the years, Debbie Sue has bought, sold, built, and renovated homes and rentals and currently owns 11 rentals of her own. In January 2020, Debbie Sue decided to add a real estate license to her toolbox and hit the ground running with her successful referral-based career as a realtor in the Chattanooga area.
In her off-time, Debbie Sue can be found in the garden – growing culinary mushrooms, trail running, doing yoga, mountain biking, alpine skiing, doing anything on the water, making old rotten homes beautiful again, or travelling internationally. She also volunteers with Rebuilding Together Chattanooga, a non-profit focused on assisting Chattanooga area residents with needed repairs to their homes.
